A fit and healthy lifestyle helps us live longer and better. Children, however, don’t realize its importance. For them, being physically active could mean having fun at the playground or playing ball games with friends. Here are some fun fitness exercises for kids that can get them going towards a better, active life.
We usually call this as aerobic exercise. Endurance exercises strengthen our cardiac muscles and enable our bodies to carry on oxygen better. An increase in breathing and heart rate are the typical things you’ll feel as you do so. Here’s a list of some endurance activities that kids can try:
- Ice Skating
Strength exercise isn’t all about lifting weights, and is perfectly safe for children. Just like adults, kids also need to strengthen their core muscles. Among the benefits are: children will learn how to balance, they will be able to coordinate their body movements, and do basic things like sitting up straight in a chair or holding a pencil.
Here’s a list of core strengthening activities:
- Push and pull – Kids can do this in everyday activities. You can have them push a chair from one corner to another, pull a heavy laundry basket, or push a stroller.
- Pick up objects – Basic things like picking up trash or any other object on the ground can also help them grow strong.
- Walk up and down the staircase – Yes, this requires strict supervision. It also isn’t just for burning excess fats. Walking up and down the stairs helps circulate oxygen, improve mental health, and strengthen the lower parts of the body.
- Crab walk – Have your children get on all fours. To do this, kids sit on their bottom, put their hands on the floor behind them, push up, and start walking.
Flexibility exercises lengthen and stretch our bodies’ muscles. Doing so, we allow our muscles and joints to move in their full range of motions. In turn, we avoid back pains and balance problems. Here’s a list of stretching activities to help your kids become flexible:
- Overhead arm stretch
- Shoulder stretch
- Tricep stretch
- Knee lunge
- Butterfly stretch
Allow kids to hold their position for about 20 to 30 seconds as they do each activity. Learn more about these flexibility exercises here.
Flexibility, strength, and endurance are the three basic elements of fitness. You can incorporate them in a variety of of activities. Stay fit, stay healthy, and have fun.
